The Waterproof Eyeliner Comparison Test

Hi,

Yesterday I thought I'd do a comparison test on all the current waterproof liquid eyeliners that I have.  I've found that with every liner that I have tried so far - they've all been rather disappointing when it comes to withstanding water as they all have a tendency to smudge. None the less, I thought i'd do a comparison test out of the 5 that I currently have.

Anyway onto the test.
So the liners used today are:
1) Bobbi Browns Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner
2) Maybelline Lasting Drama 24h Studio Gel Eyeliner.
3) K Palette Waterproof Real Lasting  EyeLiner 24h 1 Day Tatoo
4) Benefits They're Real Push Up Gel Liner
5) Make Up Forever- Aqua Eyes Pencil Liner

The swatches are in the same order as listed.
For the test I ran my hand under a running tap and scrubbed the swatches with my finger to test how much each liner would smudge after being submerged in water.

All liners resisted smudging after being submerged directly under water.

After scrubbing my hand a few times all liners had smudged.
The top 2 liners with least smudging:1) Benefit - They're Real Push Up Gel Liner- This liner smudged around the edge like the others but the dark line had stayed put and very little fading.2) KP Palette - Waterproof Real Lasting Liner  - Similar to Benefits liner, the line had smudged around the edges but the original line had stayed in place pretty well compared to the others.

After further scrubbing the only liner to have not have faded was Benefits- They're Real Push Up Liner.

I also found that the line is extremely faded but still on my hand even now (gone 1 day) and note that I wash my hands very often and have showered and scrubbed the line.

Conclusion- Even though no line had fully resisted smudging after being underwater and I don't particularly rate Benefits liner due to the awkward applicator- This has proven that out of the 5 tested, Benefits Liner has the most staying power under water. It could perhaps even be used for swimming as long as you avoid rubbing your eyes.

I plan on trying Wet and Wilds H2O Proof Liquid Liner next and if that proves to smudge then I'll look at buying Stilas All Day Liner, MAC Fluidline liner and Urban Decays Gel Liner. My Wet and Wild Liner should arrive in the next few weeks so fingers crossed!

Contouring my Schnozz and Face - Loreal Infalliable Sculpt & Seventeen Define and Conquer

Hiii

I bought Loreals Infallible Sculpt Contouring Palette a while back to test out. The packaging says its a cream to powder finish which sounded pretty amazing. The palette retails for around £10 and has boasted many good reviews on several different websites.

Unfortunately due to my pregnancy hormones; my skin has been extremely unpredictable and constantly bouncing between extremely oily and scaly dry. I did find that towards the end of the day my skin tends to lean towards the oily side so saying that; when I did use this contour kit, I found that it was making my skin even worse due to the texture being a cream consistency- which is why I bought the powder contour kit from Seventeen.

Seventeens Define & Conquer Contour Kit is a powder compact and retails for around £6 from Boots. Both contour kits come with a mirror within the compact.

I've found that the Loreal Contour kit has a nice subtle colour and doesn't come out too dark in colour. The cream consistency also enables layering for a more intense colour. The creamy texture also allows for easy blending.

The Seventeen contour kit is very easy to use for beginners. I did find it hard to use for my nose contouring, though as I didn't have the correct type of brush for it. So I used Loreal Infalliable Sculpt for my nose and the Seventeen palette for my cheeks and face.

Before and After contouring with both kits :)

K Palette Real Lasting Eyeliner -1 Day Tatoo - Waterproof Review

Hii,

Only a few more days until due date...and I've still yet to find a good waterproof liner to potentially take with me to hospital. Although, tbf, I doubt my makeup or how I look will even cross my mind at the time.

Anyway, on to the review. I received my K Palette Waterproof liner through YesStyle.co.uk and couldn't wait to test it and had real high hopes for this one.

The eyeliner is in the exact same packaging as the non waterproof version; only difference is the waterproof version has WP on the pen.

As usual, I did a Swatch on my hand, smudge and water test and also submerged my face in water with the liner being applied to my eyes.

Swatch: Similarly to the non waterproof version, this liner applies well and comes out highly pigmented. The pen style packaging allows easy application. The texture comes out black and glossy with a slight shine to it.

Smudge Test: After smudging the swatch; I found that the liner has quite good staying power. Only after a few hard scrubs the liner had started to discolour.

Water Test: For the water test, put my hand under a running tap.The swatch stayed on under water with no smudging from the running tap. I did not try scrubbing the liner off and the liner stayed on well; still maintaining its glossy black appearance from water alone.

Submerging and Scrub: The liner had started to smudge off when I swiped the excess water off my eyes and face.

I re-applied the liner onto my eyes and left it on throughout the day and wore it into the shower later. I submerged my face under water but resisted touching my eyes after being in water to see whether the liner would would smudge. The results are as below. The bottom liner seems to have smudged slightly under the lash line but the upper lash line seems to have stayed on well without any smudging and crumbling.

Rating:

Texture: 4/5 I like the glossy finish and the liner is very easy to apply but due to the liner being a felt tip application, the liner does dry out easily.

Smudge Resistance: 4/5 - Good resistance to scrubbing. -1 for slight discolouration.

Water Resistance: 3/5 - The liner stays on well in water but will come off with scrubbing. Can be worn underwater and swimming but would just have to avoid touching any areas with the applied liner.

YesStyle.co.uk Haul

Hii,

I just received a package from YesStyle.co.uk yesterday and am super excited to try everything!

YesStyle is a Asian Fashion website which sells clothing and makeup.I ordered on the 2nd May and recieved my order by 16th May. Pretty fast considering delivery was predicted to be over 2 weeks over seas.

I'd bought a new BB cream as my skin seems to be quite dry at the moment. The Korean BB Cream comes in a cute little baby face bottle and I think it got it for around £3. I also bought a pack of 5 strip lashes from Litfly for around £3. This is cheaper than the usual set I get from Diamond Lash aand super exicted for the arrival of my K Palette Water proof 1 day Tatoo eyeliner and 7 Days Tattoo Eyebrow by TONYMOLY.

Can't wait to try these out !

Benefit- They're Real! Push Up Liner Review, Smudge and Watertest

Hello,

I've had this liner for a while as I bought it before going away on my wedding and honeymoon hoping it would be the perfect long lasting liner it claims to be.

The liner retails for around £18 and after hearing many good reviews on the "They're Real" range from Benefit I was really excited to put this liner to the test.

Packaging and application-
The liner is a gel formula in a pen style applicator. The liner claims to be easy to apply with lash hugging effect. The pen has a rubber nib and the gel is dispensed when the bottom of the liner is twisted.

Unfortunately I find the texture of the gel too crumbly. When applied using the applicator I find the gel tends to crumble off the nib in chunks leaving lots of product being wasted before successful application. I've found the best way to apply this liner is gently squeeze the nib for a tiny excess amount to come out of the nib rather than trying to twist the bottom until more product comes out. In the bottom left picture the top half of the gel had crumbled off whilst applying the liner. The top right picture shows the gel completely crumbled off. In the top left and bottom right you can see the crumbled off gel in the corner of my eye and just above my lashes.

Swatch and Tests-

The left picture shows the swatch of the liner on the back of my hand. The liner comes out easily on the back of my hand and actually comes out in a dark pigment which is a shame as this doesn't seem to be the same when applied on my eyes.

The middle picture shows the results of the swatch after being smudged with my index finger. As the photo shows; there is slight smudging discoloration around the line. The liner is pretty resistant to smudging as I did have to rub it pretty hard before it started to wear down the colour.

The right picture shows the result after being smudged with water. I dipped my index finger in water and rubbed the top half of the swatch and found that the liner was prone to smudging on the edges.

Submerging in Water Test

I applied the liner to my top lash line and submerged my face in water for a few seconds before swiping any excess water off my eyes. As below results show; the liner had started to crumble off. On a positive note; at least the liner crumbled off rather than smudging and causing panda eyes. Perhaps this liner would work quite well if the your eyes are left untouched after being in contact with water.

Rating:

Texture: 0/5 - Awkward application due to the texture being far too crumbly to get a precise application on the lash line. Product is also wasted when applying due to the style of the applicator.

Smudge Resistance: 4/5 - The liner, once applied, seems to be quite resistant to smudging. As above test, the liner needs to be rubbed pretty hard before discolouration,

Water Resistance: 4/5- I wouldn't class this liner as water proof as water seems to make this liner smudge pretty easily when rubbed, however; I did notice that the swatch on my hand stayed on throughout the day through several hand washes but not rubbing specifically on the swatch. (even though it was slightly smeared from when I had rubbed it underwater).

Thank you for reading!

K Palette 1 day tattoo - Real Lasting Eyeliner Review

I bought this off eBay after reading good reviews on several asian cosmetic websites.
Unfortunately, the photo on eBay was different from the item description and I'd gone and bought it thinking it was the waterproof version. I have since bought the waterproof version and am currently awaiting delivery from yesstyle.com

The reviews on this liner were also good and the brand describes the liner to be long lasting hence the name "1 day tattoo" so I did a swatch and smudge test with it.
The prices for this liner range from £13 onwards on eBay.

This is a felt tip style eyeliner. As with most felt liners I've tried, this liner glides on easy and comes out highly pigmented on my upper lash line. I find these felt liners slightly trickier to apply to my lower lash line and I've noticed it doesn't come out as dark unless I go over it several times.

Swatch before and after smudging-

The eyeliner has a nice consistency and doesn't crumble when smudged however, the colour does become lighter with smudging.

Rating:

Texture: 4/5 knocked off a point due to the felt drying out after a few uses. On the plus side; unlike other felt liners I have tried, this liner comes out highly pigmented.
Smudge Resistence: 4/5 Had to rub the liner several times before it started to budge and even when it did, it didn't crumble like other liners.

I like this liner for its smudge resistance, however, due to my eyes being very oily and watery at the moment; I can't make much use of this as i've noticed it runs very easily when come into contact with even the slightest of humidity. Hopefully the water proof version will be a success.
